Moving! Hope to be in for Xmas
We have been in Cornwall now 8 months and finally are moving
out of the rented accommodation that we are in. We have bought new home and
hopefully should get the keys tomorrow, we have just 3 weeks to get it looking
like home before we have to be out of here, so hopefully we will have the
basics done so it’s cosy for Christmas.
Wish me luck
Charity shops offer more than you think.
I moved from Lancashire to Cornwall this year and when I first
arrived my husband went off to work and the boys went to school I became aware
of how alone I was, no friends to pop round for a brew, no family to visit,
knowing that once I set foot outside the door I was not going to see a familiar
face seemed quite daunting.
I went out to get my bearings and came across the local
Cornish hospice shop and not being able to resist the lure of a bargain I went
inside. I notice they were advertising
for volunteers and thought why not, within a couple of days I did my first
shift and loved it, the manager and ladies were lovely and what a great way to
meet the locals.
I now have a full time job elsewhere so only occasionally get
the chance to help out now, but still pop in for a chat and a good rummage now
and again.
Last night I had the pleasure of going out for an Italian meal
with the charity shop ladies on their Christmas do and had a fantastic time, so
you see as well as the odd bargain charity shop can be a good way of helping
out a local charity and meeting some good friends along the way.

Looe Music Fesival
Normally we have a full calender of festivals and VW Shows, this year however we moved from Lancashire to looe in Cornwall, and the year has been domanated by the move, settling the boys in schools, finding new jobs and searching for our forever home.
We have managed to squeeze lots of fun days in thoughout this time, but festivals have had to take a back seat this year,
This weekend however Looe is hosting its own music festival http://www.looemusic.co.uk/ five minutes from our door step it would be rude not to have bought tickets.
The excitment mounts as earlier this week one of the stages is being set up on the beach.
I will post more photos and comments over the weekend, See you soon. Julie x

Mackerel for tea.
The boys went out on a fishing trip, and although my
youngest got a bit sea sick they still managed to catch enough for our tea.
After being gutted the fish where put on the BBQ and served
with new potatoes and salad.

No fit state circus
We went off to the Eden Project last night as it was my eldest 13th Birthday (Where does all the time go?) on Friday and this was a birthday treat. We got there early and enjoyed the BBQ that they were serving for £6 a head.
The show was great, I had to laugh as at one point I asked the birthday boy if he could see and suggested he stand in front of me for a better view, only to realise that he is now taller then I thought and now I couldn't see. would recommend if your down this way get some tickets and see it for yourself.www.edenproject.com/bianco-circus-cornwall/

Car boot booty
I’m feeling very pleased with myself today, Just got back
from my first car boot sale in weeks, the sun was shining and there were quite
a few selling as a result.
I spent the princely sum of £10 and came back with the
following
Four beautiful pink glass sundae dishes
Three camping stools
This wicker basket for storage
I could couldn’t believe my luck when the stall holder said
£1 for this Gladstone tapestry bag.
The peacock necklace and bracelet will add to my collection
Teal knitted beret and scarf
Two small round basket for storing brooches and hairclips
A glass jelly mould
Once back home the sun was shinning, bags were quickly packed and in 5 mins we were on Looe beach enjoying a BBQ on the beach.
Boys, Boys, Boys
The last two weekends have dominated by the boys activities.
Last weekend was spend in Newquay the boys had pre booked
surf lessons, the weather was kind to us and while the boys were having their
lessons me and the hubby had a mooch
around the town and came across this lovely newly opened vintage shop.
Unfortunately there was nothing that I fell in love with,
but will defiantly be paying another visit when next there.
All in all a great day out the boys enjoyed their lessons me
and hubby had some time alone always a plus.

All work and no play
Sorry it’s been so long since my last blog, I have started a
full time job here in Cornwall now and it seems to have taken over everything,
not been able to get to any car boots sales as I have had to work weekends too.
Any free time has been taken up with house hunting, as the
house we are currently in is rented and although o.k. is not the same as having
your own home. Not having much luck at
the moment I feel there are going to have
to be compromises made on my side, as
you don’t seem to be able to get much for your money down here.
Looking forward to friends and family coming to visit over
the next few months, will be great to show them around and catching up on all the gossip from back in
Lancashire.

Friday night fight (What a Twit)
We had tickets on Friday night to see a production of Roald Dahl's novel the Twits, the performance was enjoyable though it was Marred by several
light showers, and cut slightly short due to Mr Twit actually hitting Mrs Twit
in the face with the base of a kettle, in a slap stick role near the end of the
show.
we spent the night in
the Camper on a nearby campsite but strong winds woke us several times in the
night.
We decide to spend Saturday in St. Ives but made the decision that we would
return home not wanting to risk another sleepless night in the camper as the weather
had not improved any.

Bank Holiday Monday Motors
This weekend we bought the local Cornish newspaper to see
what was happening in our area over the Bank holiday weekend.
There was an ad for an event near Redruth which caught my
eye, stock car racing, I once worked with a young University Graduate that
raced; he was forever telling me what good fun it was so off we went.
We got there the weather was beautiful and at £31 for the
four of us the entrance fee was a bargain.
Once in there the racing commenced. We watched everything from stock cars,
mini’s, old bangers and even buses race.
My youngest had the ability to select most of the winners,
while it seemed I had the ability to pick the ones that caught fire, lost
wheels and even flipped over.
All in all we had a great day.

Friday Evening Events
I started my new job last week and enjoyed getting to know
my new work mates as well as the customers, both regular and the ones on
holiday.
However the highlight of the week for me was finishing work
on Friday at 6pm being able to walk home in less than 10 minutes, quick change a
couple of drinks in the local followed by stroll on the beach eating fish and
chips. How different from the working
day back in Lancashire.

Fun in the sun
Been busy this week so not had time to sit down and do this
before now, we have been living here for five weeks here now and so far
everything’s going well, the boys are loving their new schools and my husband
has been working for two weeks now, and is settling in no problem, as for
myself I start work this week.
This weekend because the weather has been so good we decided
to go away for the weekend in our VW Camper (Rupert). We travelled about 25
miles to Fowey and stayed at the Penhale
campsite.
Saturday morning we went into Fowey and had a walk around
the harbour, we chose a restaurant and treated ourselves to moules and frites
for lunch followed by Ice-creams.
Fowey was lovely, everything you would expect from a Cornish
seaside town with quaint, narrow streets and plenty of gift shops and places to
eat.
One pleasant surprise was the www.upton-house.com B&B with a pink
exterior and a shop on the ground
floor with an entrance guarded by two pink flamingos. The B&B and shop has a unique air
of 1940’s Hollywood glamour,the shop
is apparently a showcase for the owners Angelique's
interiors business.
Back at the
campsite we took a ten minute walk to Polkerris beach where we all took a dip
in the sea. Brave or foolish? Not quite sure as the water was freezing
despite the day being so hot.
Once dry we went back to the camper for a BBQ
tea. We ended the
evening with an impromptu thunder storm with some spectacular lightening.

MAKING A HOUSE A HOME.
We have been
here four weeks now and I am starting to get my bearings. Having sold our house
in Lancashire we are currently living in rented property, while we find the
right property for us to buy and call our own. Unfortunately the house is
furnished and although I have brought some of our things with us, most of it had
to go into storage.
Yesterday feeling
a need to make things look less beige and more us, we decided to get in the car
to see what’s out there. I was reading frugal Queens blog, and realised her
home town is around 8 miles from us. So
off we went into Liskeard and had a wander around the charity shops. I found this glass jug with lid for 75p,
perfect for making up cordial and popping into the fridge for the boys to
drink.
Not one to miss
a bargain I heard there was a car boot sale on Saturdays not far from Liskeard
so I got in the car to find St Ive. On arrival it seemed quiet, according to
one of the stall holders it is usually a lot busier but due to the Olympic torch
passing through Liskeard yesterday it was quiet, still I managed to buy these
great kitchen utensils all four for 50p once I’ve rubbed the handles down and
painted them they will look great.
Also this 1950’s
vase for the amazing price of £1, once filled with some fresh flowers this will
start to make this house feel more homely.
